Product Range Development

Maximise your product revenue - create a product range.

Why a range?

Your clients are all different with different requirements and different budgets. One product may not be right for them all. There is an opportunity to adapt your product to offer more without developing completely new products: a simpler lower cost version, a more expensive more complex version, a range of sizes or a just a range of colours and finishes. This flexibility allows you to up-sell and down-sell to your clients and to simply reach more of the market.

Defining the range

Developing a product as a range rather than a single item is best done as part of the original product development, but you may want to take an existing product and expand its potential. We can help you define the details of your range and develop a comprehensive specification for all the products.

Adapting the design

We then work with you to adapt your existing - or new - design to meet the requirements of the new range. We’ll also look at production options to identify how best to make the range in the simplest and most efficient way.

Supporting development

We provide whatever assistance you need, ranging in scope from ad-hoc advice to managing the complete product range roll-out.

The Cast Iron Bath Company

As well as providing exceptional products to their clients The Cast Iron Bath Company are creating clear and informative user manuals for all their products. To facilitate this they have used Makersmith to create a huge range of 3D models to allow their products to be shown in any orientation. In addition the product models can be shown installed or exploded to provide illustrations for parts manuals. This approach gives the Cast Iron Bath Company documents an outstanding level of detail and clarity which contributes to ease of use, installation and repair and which, in turn, leads to increased customer satisfaction.

"Gareth’s depth of knowledge and expertise in product development and 3D modelling, gave us the opportunity to take 2D sketched ideas through progressive stages of 3D CAD modelling. In so doing, we avoided numerous financial costs and unnecessary delays in launching our range of tapware. …. Gareth’s ability to understand our challenges and communicate his ideas clearly made the whole process much easier than we expected."
Lee Hunwicks - Founder of The Cast Iron Bath Company

Extending a product range can be seen as a means of incrementally developing your product portfolio. The alternative is to introduce a radically new product. The Design Council have a useful article on Incremental versus Radical product development and you can read it here.

If you are unsure how to take any new product development forward then do talk to us; Incremental or Radical – we can help.
